Sediment
I stack heartaches like sediment -
recycled dust turned to stone
I stand in the storm to gather them up,
whipping like sand against my skin.
In my arms, my beloved becomes
a rock reborn
from the pressure
of my Elements.
My lovers fuse like layers
like vertebrae
Fit them in the flesh of your hand,
Scratch their itch, smooth their sides.
They are jagged, but kind -
colorful, but abrasive.
Their foundation is strong;
They won't be handled again.
I give them back to their Mothers'
Earth,
And move on, but never through.
